Madagascar’s Sakoany district is the world’s top source for celestite — strontium sulfate in pale sky-blue crystals that earned the mineral its name (‘sky stone’ in Latin). Geodes here can reach 50 cm diameter, lined with tabular crystals that shimmer with a calming blue impossible to replicate in glass.
This specimen originates from Sakoany, Madagascar, one of the world’s most significant localities for this type of material. Collectors and scientists have drawn from this region for generations, and for good reason: the combination of geological conditions here produces specimens of exceptional quality and clarity.
