Chalcopyrite — brassy yellow, iridescent when tarnished — is Earth’s primary copper ore, but Peru’s Huaron mine produces crystals of sculptural quality atop contrasting dark sphalerite matrices. The iridescence comes from thin oxide layers that act as diffraction gratings, creating peacock-like color play.
This specimen originates from Huaron, Pasco, Peru, one of the world’s most significant localities for this type of material.
