The chatoyancy in cat’s eye chrysoberyl — a single bright line that moves with light, exactly replicating a feline iris — comes from parallel channels or inclusions of actinolite aligned during crystal growth. In the gem trade, ‘cat’s eye’ alone always means chrysoberyl; other cat’s eyes require a qualifying mineral name. Sri Lanka’s production is the world benchmark.
This specimen originates from Ratnapura, Sri Lanka, one of the world’s most significant localities for this type of material.
